“WHEN I WAS in Brazil, I discovered that a light bulb hanging from a lamp-post usually indicates a drug-dealing spot. When I came back to photograph one of these, the bulb was broken, so I plugged a flashing yellow bulb instead to underline the intermittent access to electricity in these neighbourhoods. There are a lot of places around Quito where people have to steal light from public space.”

Rodolfo Kronfle is Ecuador's most influential art critic, historian and independent curator. He is the creator and editor of Rio Revuelto, a prominent art blog that has been providing insight to Ecuador's contemporary art scene for almost 15 years. For several years, Rodolfo wrote a weekly art column for one of Ecuador's largest newspapers El Universo. He has curated several exhibitions across Latin America and the United States, most notably "Pasado Imperfecto," a 2011 travelling group exhibition focused on Ecuadorian video art. In 2012, Rodolfo published the book Historia(s) en el arte contemporáneo del Ecuador 1998-2009.
