“I DID TWELVE ‘rocket launch’ performances in different places around the world—tracing the history of ballistic weapons. I would take samples from each of these launch locations, such as sand from under the launchpad, a particular type of crystal, creating conceptual talismans. In Cape Canaveral, Florida, I had placed a NASA space blanket underneath the rocket. Once burned, it turned into these beautiful, gold maps with micro-holes and translucent blue, space crystals. These are real pieces of the blanket, inserted in medium format projection slides that you can throw in a projector - the pattern looks like a starry sky.”
