Artist Mideo Cruz curated by a pivotal force in the Southeast Asian art scene Dayang Yraola

“What strikes me in Mideo's work is how he uses familiar images: religious, political and popular icons that are recognizable beyond the Philippines. While his works can be unsettling, there's a hint of humour that reveals a universal, inconvenient truth.”
A PIVOTAL FORCE IN THE SOUTHEAST ASIAN ART SCENE • PROJECT GLOCAL • ASIAN CULTURAL COUNCIL
Regarded as one of the Philippines' most forward-thinking curators, Dayang Yraola is a force not only in the Manila art scene, but all across Southeast Asia. She is the founder of Project Glocal, a social venture that builds connections between artists from Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila and Singapore. In 2010, Dayang was an arts associate at the National Gallery of Singapore, and in 2012, was a grantee of the Asian Cultural Council, a non-profit organization that promotes cultural exchange between the U.S. and Asia. Together with Patrick D. Flores and Manuel Ocampo, Dayang is part of a new generation of artists and curators putting Filipino art on the map.
