Artist Tazeen Qayyum curated by TIFF artistic director Cameron Bailey

“I first discovered Tazeen's work about 12 years ago. What I like about Tazeen is that she was trained in a traditional art form. She practices it at a very high level, but she's introduced a contemporary art practice into it. There's a kind of hybrid element to her work that I find very appealing.”
TIFF ARTISTIC DIRECTOR • PLANET AFRICA • FILM CRITIC • CURATOR
In collaboration with the Globe and Mail, Wondereur invited Toronto International Film Festival artistic director Cameron Bailey to share the work of an artist that deeply touches him. A TIFF programmer for over 25 years, Cameron brought to the festival a diversity-focused perspective on film criticism that played a major role in defining TIFF as a major destination for international discovery. The British-born, Barbados-raised film maven founded the Planet Africa section of the festival (1996-2004) and was instrumental in raising the profile of new cinema from Africa and South Asia in North America. A respected curator and film critic, Cameron has curated films for The National Gallery of Canada, The National Film Board of Canada and Australia's Sydney International Film Festival.
