I'M ATTRACTED BY THE NORTH.
2
When I moved to Sweden, I was new to everybody, and I had to start from scratch.
3
I encountered burial mounds and traces of Viking settlements, and huge, spherical carved rocks.
4
THE ROCKS WERE MEANT TO REPRESENT RESURRECTION AND ETERNAL PRESENCE.
5
WHEN YOU TOUCH A SPHERICAL ROCK, THERE IS NO BEGINNING OR END.
6
I felt I needed to leave my eternal presence in Sweden. I needed to make my own burial.
7
One day I received a call from my dad. We had not spoken to each other for a few months. The conversation did not go well. After I hung up, I set up the camera, took a sheet of paper and drew red circles.
8
THE CIRCLE IS IN ME, IT’S IN YOU. IT’S VERY MATERNAL.

When I was a kid, I had this recurring nightmare. I was in an endless library. The library was filled with books, and each one was the biggest book I had ever seen, containing the smallest writing I’d ever seen. In the dream, I had to read all the books. Every night I would wake up crying.

NOW, THINGS THAT SEEM INFINITE – TOO BIG, TOO SMALL, TOO ABUNDANT – BOTH SCARE AND ATTRACT ME.
12
I did an artist residency on Toronto Island. I intended to create 12 spheres out of sand from the island beach. Then I met this boy and we had, you know, some special moments. I ended up making just two smaller rocks. For me, those two rocks were like our temporary presence on the island together. The rocks were there, and then they were almost immediately gone; someone stole them.
13
I realized recently that I need to touch things. I need to leave a trace.
14
How do we leave our imprint on the world around us? How can I make my mark everywhere, on people’s minds and on their physical space?
15
I NEED TO METAMORPHOSIZE THE THINGS THAT HAVE AN IMPACT ON ME.
